Unbelievable: From Baltimore to Upper Marlboro to Volunteer at Asawana Farms!

We are absolutely blown away by our incredible volunteers, J & A, who drove all the way from Baltimore to spend the day volunteering and learning at Asawana Farms. Yes—you read that right! From Baltimore to Upper Marlboro just to get their hands in the soil and learn how to grow.

When we asked how they found out about us, they said: TikTok!  It’s truly amazing how social media can bring like-minded people together across distances. What a time to be alive!

We welcomed them with a full tour of the farm, shared our composting techniques, and of course—they passed the Asawana Farms rite of passage: tasting bitter leaf! (Our powerhouse plant known for helping regulate blood sugar.)

As fate would have it, they came at the perfect time and jumped right in—helping us lay down weed barrier fabric to prep for the growing season. Their curiosity, passion, and work ethic were palpable. It’s so gratifying to see young people taking this much interest in farming and sustainable living.

J&A, we’re so grateful for your energy, drive, and good vibes. Thank you for spending your day with us. We can’t wait to have you back—and don’t forget to bring your friends next time!
