On December 27, 2025, we were honored to welcome Charles Rominiyi, Manager of The Well at Oxon Run, at DC Greens to Asawana Farms!
It was an inspiring day of collaboration, conversation, and community. We exchanged ideas on how DC Greens’ Food as Medicine program is making a real impact in D.C. — from promoting healthier eating to connecting residents with fresh, local produce and meaningful gardening opportunities.
One of the most powerful takeaways from our time with DC Greens was hearing how they understand healthy food as a fundamental human right — not a privilege. That belief fuels everything they do, from youth garden education to support for local growers and community food access initiatives.
We also learned more about their Produce Rx program, an innovative effort that connects residents, especially those managing diet-related health conditions, with fresh fruits and vegetables through prescriptions from healthcare providers. This kind of bridge between healthcare and nutrition helps people eat well to feel well, putting food literally at the heart of better health outcomes.
DC Greens has been working with farmers, volunteers, and community members in Washington, D.C. for over 20 years, championing equitable access to good food, empowering youth with gardening education, and supporting local growers.
Charles brought great insights from The Well at Oxon Run, and together we talked about:
-How to encourage more people to grow their own food
-Best practices in sustainable farming
-Ways to strengthen food as medicine initiatives throughout the city
It’s always a powerful thing when farmers and food leaders come together to share knowledge, build community, and grow toward a healthier future.
Here’s to more partnerships, more gardens, and more food that heals — because healthy food truly should be accessible to all!
