May 4, 2025 – This past weekend, Asawana Farms was proud to be part of the National Urban Farm Fest in Upper Marlboro, MD—an inspiring celebration of local food, sustainable living, and community-powered agriculture. Among the buzzing stalls and vibrant workshops, one installation stood tall—literally.
Our hands-on vertical gardening workshop was a major hit! Visitors were drawn to the Asawana Farms Garden display, where we demonstrated how to grow abundant vegetables in small spaces using simple, low-cost materials. With the help of our passionate volunteers, Mickey and Tonya, we got people excited about the possibilities of vertical gardening—a practical and beautiful solution for anyone with limited space but big dreams of growing their own food.
Throughout the day, attendees gathered around to learn, ask questions, and get their hands involved. Whether it was about building the vertical frames, choosing the right soil, or selecting the best crops for small spaces, curiosity was contagious. Mickey and Tonya did a fantastic job showing just how accessible and empowering it is to grow food in urban environments.
“This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!”
“I never thought I could grow so much in such a small area!”
These were just a few of the many positive comments we heard from festival goers—proof that our mission to inspire and equip the community to grow their own food is taking root.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who visited, asked questions, and shared their stories. Events like these remind us of the importance of reconnecting with the land, no matter where we live or how much space we have.
Asawana Farms is committed to continuing this work—bringing innovative, accessible, and joyful growing methods to more neighborhoods and helping people reclaim their power to nourish themselves and their communities.
Stay tuned for more workshops, pop-ups, and partnerships. Let’s keep growing—together!
