4/27/2025 – Asawana Farms had the joy of welcoming a group of young volunteers who came ready to learn, work hard, and dream big about their future gardens. These passionate individuals are planning to start their own growing spaces soon, and we are so proud to be a part of their journey!
One of the highlights of the day was repurposing a 2-yard biochar tote bag — a project that fits perfectly with our mission of sustainability and creative urban farming. Instead of allowing this large tote bag to be discarded into a landfill, we gave it a new life as a planting bed. Together with our volunteers, we filled it with layers of wood chips and nutrient-rich compost. Soon, it will be home to waterleaf and bitterleaf, two crops well-loved for their resilience and nutritional value.
The process was a beautiful example of teamwork, innovation, and hands-on learning. Watching our volunteers work with such dedication and curiosity was truly inspiring. They didn’t just move compost and wood chips — they built a foundation for new growth, both in the soil and within themselves.
At Asawana Farms, we’re constantly experimenting with creative ways to grow food in an urban environment. Projects like this help us find sustainable, practical solutions that anyone can replicate in small spaces. More importantly, days like these remind us that the future of farming is bright, especially with young minds and hands leading the way.
Thank you to all our volunteers for your energy, hard work, and commitment to building a greener, more sustainable world. We can’t wait to see the gardens you grow!
