At Asawana Farms, we believe that real change happens when leaders step out from behind the podium and into the heart of the community. That’s exactly what happened when Councilwoman for District Six, Wala Blegay recently took time out of her busy schedule to visit our farm and show her support for local agriculture and community-based health.
Asawana Farms had the great honor of hosting Prince George’s County Councilwoman Wala Blegay (District 6). Her visit was more than a simple tour of our fields — it was a powerful moment of connection between policy and practice, between local government and grassroots agriculture, and between healthcare and the soil beneath our feet.
Asawana Farms welcomed Dr. Nadine Burton of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Small Farms Program to share her wisdom on overhead irrigation systems. Dr. Burton led a specialized training on overhead irrigation systems that is designed for farms with dense planting zones.
Asawana Farms was proud to be part of the National Urban Farm Fest in Upper Marlboro, MD—an inspiring celebration of local food, sustainable living, and community-powered agriculture. Among the buzzing stalls and vibrant workshops, one installation stood tall—literally.
